Christians await the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Jews anticipate the first and only visit from the Messiah. Upon arrival, the Savior will reward the followers of the Word of God and condemn and banish the evil doers.
The basic messages and principles of Christianity, Judaism, and all other religions are quite simple:
“Don’t be a jerk” (the less vulgar version) and "Help the less fortunate people".
Jesus came to deliver that message in person. Simple enough, right? But, some folks did not like his message and well, you know the story.
So, you may have been wondering what happened before Jesus came to Earth and after he left us? Where was he and where did he go?
This is only a theory, as I do not in any way claim to be a Theologian. But, as a Catholic, Christian, and Scientist, I devised a theory. I do not know if anyone has proposed a “Universal Jesus Theory” in other publications or media, this proposition is strictly of my own consciousness. But, before I proceed with my theory, a little background information is necessary.
A Brief History of Earth and Jesus
The universe is quite old. Scientists estimate it to be about 13 billion plus years old (13,000,000,000), which is a number that is impossible to conceive, based on a human life span. The Solar System and Earth are about 4.5 billion years old. “Modern” humans have only been around for about 50,000 years. If you are one of the really lucky people to have a very long life, you will not live much more than 100 years, which is an insignificant amount of time compared to the age of the universe and the Earth.
One hundred years is much more than enough time to do something good for your contemporaries and descendants. It is also more than enough time to ruin many lives. Independent thought and free will allows us to choose our path.
According to Scholars and Theologians, Jesus came down from Heaven and was born on Earth, about 2000 years ago. He lived about 33 years, which is only about one-third of a very long human life. During, most of Jesus’ time on Earth, there is little information about his life. We know the story of his birth. God sent Jesus down from Heaven to save humanity from itself.
Prior to his ministry, Jesus worked in the family business as a carpenter. He began teaching relatively later in life, when he was about 30 years old or so. In a three-year span, he taught us how to conduct ourselves and how to live as decent people.
Some people listened to the teachings and some did not, which still happens today. Jesus was crucified, rose from the dead, and promised to return to us one day. So, what happened after Jesus Christ left us? Where did he go?
Universal Jesus Theory: Is Jesus Teaching the Word of God on Other Worlds?
For a long time, humans have looked into space and asked the question “Is life out there?” We really don’t know the answer yet. But, some scientists tell us there may be a multitude of planets capable of supporting basic life forms or even complex and advanced civilizations.
As discussed on many television documentaries about extraterrestrial visitations to early civilizations on Earth, the visitors provided the inhabitants with technologies unheard of in ancient societies. The visitors were treated as gods and enshrined in the artwork, which includes paintings, sculptures, carvings, and even the legends and stories of the local people. Some may use this analogy for Jesus’ time on Earth.
The Bible and other holy books, stories, and legends tell us that God created the entire universe, which includes all living and non-living things. Since God created the universe, that means he may also have created other conscious beings capable of independent thought and free will.
The Bible tells us that we were created in God’s image and he gave us his only Son. Jesus came to us born as a poor human male, so that he would fit into the ancient Hebrew society. Eventually, he started preaching the Word of God.
Jesus’ Universal Ministry
If Jesus has a universal ministry, he can spend only a finite amount of time conveying the Word of God to the inhabitants before moving on to the next stop on his mission. As a result, he will need a legion of followers and clergy to spread his message after his departure. When he departs from the other worlds, does he leave behind a contingent of Apostles to spread the Word?
If the traveling, Universal Jesus has a life expectancy elsewhere as he did on Earth, say the equivalent of 30 Earth years; he would have visited about 67 worlds in the past 2000 years. Did he visit other worlds before he came to Earth? It is possible.
God is Omnipresent: He is Everywhere at Once
God is said to be “omnipresent”, which means he is everywhere at once. This is a very difficult concept for anyone to grasp. But, what if there are multiple “Universal Jesus’” where he takes many forms, but yet remains the same being. This is the same as the “Trinity” concept, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – three entities, yet the same being. So, maybe there are “Infinite” gods, yet the same being, which is a different concept from many gods and many beings.
When scientists discuss the possibility of intelligent life on other planets, they only discuss the potential technological capabilities of those inhabitants. I do not think I have ever heard any of them discuss or theorize on the possibility of religious beliefs and spiritual cultures of these beings. If there are other beings in the universe that God created in his own image, surely they must have souls.
How many worlds and civilizations are there where Salvation is needed? Are we the only people and planet that needs to be saved from our own chaos, turmoil, and oblivion?
Jesus told us that he would return one day. If he visited other worlds, did he tell the inhabitants the same thing? Will Judgment Day happen on one world at a time, or will it be one huge universal cleansing?
Given the possibility of intelligent life on other planets and that those inhabitants will probably speculate on creationism and evolution of their kind. It seems fit to state that they may anticipate a Savior, who is recognizable to them will make an appearance to bring hope for an eternal life.
Saving the Universe
In this article, Jesus is presented as the conveyor of the Word of God and Saivor of us all. But, the Universal Jesus Theory can be applied to other religions, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. The primary teachers of these religions, Siddhartha Gautama, Krishna, and Mohammed, respectively, may be celestial, "Universal" travelers who are teaching inhabitants of all worlds how to conduct themselves in a spiritual manner, which is consistent with the Laws of God. In other words, they are instructing other beings the “Don’t be a jerk” and "Help the less fortunate" spiritual and philosophical ways of life.
The Universal Jesus Theory is in no way meant to be blasphemous. It is just a follow up question to what is presented in the Bible. Since God created everything in the universe, then every conscious inhabitant with independent thought and free will in the universe must be made aware of his teachings and expectations of them, right? When will Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Mohammed, and other prophets complete their universal trek and teachings and return to cleanse the universe of evil?
We are told in the Bible, that with God, all things are possible. It is up to you to decide if the Universal Jesus Theory has any validity.
